It’s A Music Town.

“It’s a Music Town.”

Exploring the Sights, the Sounds and the Stories of Charlottesville in the Modern Rock Era

Opening Friday April 5th, the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society is proud to present this unprecedented new exhibit showcasing the musicians, the music, the bands, the venues and the many unforgettable moments from the “golden age” of the live music scene in Charlottesville, Virginia, from the 1960s to the 2000s.

This historic exhibit was curated by Rich Tarbell and Coy Barefoot,
and was inspired by Rich’s 2018 book of collected oral histories and
photography, Regarding Charlottesville Music. The exhibit is a project
of the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society, and was made
possible thanks to a generous donation by Hunter Smith and the
Champion Brewing Company of Charlottesville. The exhibit will be on
display in City Space on the Downtown Mall through April 2019, after which it will be on long-term display at a new location to be announced later.
