About the artist
Rich Tarbell is a portrait photographer and archivist who has made Charlottesville his home since arriving to attend the University of Virginia in 1987. He is active in the local music community and in 2017 published the book “Regarding Charlottesville Music,” which led to a feature interview on NPR’s “World Cafe” radio program. Locally you can catch him in the wild snapping shots of his faithful collaborators in rock, Shagwüf, or the Americana troubadours Chamomile & Whiskey. As a frequent contributor to Dürty Nelly’s notorious parking lot truck stage concerts, Rich loves an outdoor show with his loyal golden retriever, Mazzy Starr. Note: Rich is currently accepting pre-orders on his website for the reissue of the “Regarding Charlottesville Music” hardcover book, which is expected to ship in early 2026.
